Nutrition Counseling and You

Eating less may seem like a great way to lose weight, but if you don’t eat enough—or the right balance of nutrients—you could do more harm than good to your body. Instead of forcing yourself to subsist on lettuce and plain meat to shed the pounds, you may want to look into nutrition therapy.

How It Goes

Find a dietician to help you figure out what your ideal diet should be. They will order blood work done and will analyze your body’s chemical make-up to determine what food or substances your body can take in better, as well as what it needs to stay away from.

Once your health condition has been determined, the dietician develops a meal plan specifically for you. For instance, your body might process protein better than it does calcium so you should get more protein in your daily diet but will need to watch your milk intake from now on.

A Good Plan

Nutrition counseling helps you find out what kind of diet—food and substances—works great for your work condition. The plan reads pretty much like a checklist of Dos and Don’ts to help ensure you learn to start eating and living healthy. From suggestions and reminders on diet to eating habits, you basically get help that’s specifically tailored to your body make up, current diet and ideal weight.

In Numbers

Nutrition therapy has done a lot to improve health and keep complications at bay with the way it helps patients change their diet and eating habits, says the American Dietetic Association. It’s ideal for people who are overweight or have existing conditions like food allergies, AIDS, heart disease, cancer and both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Advantages

Non-invasive. That’s first on the list. Need to get your body weight on track? Meal plans don’t require patients to get on the operating table just to shed a few pounds.

Freedom. If your diet needs more healthy fats, you’re pretty much free to go with whatever choice of fats you want. Go for peanut oil. Get your avocado fix. Or start with a generous serving of almonds.

At Home. Once you get the meal plan, it’s a go. No need to go for 10 sessions or more to the doctor.

Like any other plan though, results won’t happen if you don’t put in the effort necessary. The only way nutrition counseling—and the meal plan—will work is if you do. So make sure to follow the plan to a tee. At Frederick Chiropractic Wellness Center, we’ll help your body gain the right level of nutrition and weight it needs.
