4 Reasons to Take that MRI Now

Your doctor has just told you to get an MRI. Here’s why you’ll want to get one as soon as possible:

You’ve got symptoms

If you’ve been feeling under the weather and the usual round of meds don’t work, your doctor can request for a magnetic resonance imaging exam to determine what your condition is, says Family Doctor. Imaging exams help doctors find out what they’re dealing with especially since it can be easy to mistake the symptoms of one condition for another.

You’ve got cancer in the family

Imaging tests also help determine the presence of any cancerous growths or cells in your body. If you’ve got a history of pancreatic or colon cancer in your family, for instance, your doctor might recommend you for an imaging test simply to eliminate the possibility that you’ve got any cancer cells.

You’re in pain

Pain is the best indicator that something’s wrong. Don’t try to self-medicate. Some signs of early colon cancer, for instance, feel like you’ve simply got an upset stomach. This can go on for years. You’ll want to have yourself thoroughly checked out. Getting an MRI can help eliminate any worries and fears you might feel about your condition.

You feel lumps

If you perform self-examinations on a regular basis and you feel lumps in your body, an MRI can determine if you’ve got cysts or not. And if you do, the tests will also help your doctors determine if they cysts or growths are anything to worry about or not. Some growths are benign so doctors might recommend against removing those cysts, especially if the procedure will only traumatize the nerve. In the case of malignant ones, though, early removal is recommended.

These are more than enough reasons to schedule your magnetic resonance imaging exam. For more information, ask your doctor.
